Writer/director Ilana Rein and co-writer Brian Smith cultivated a suspenseful atmosphere with great imagery and an intense plot that plays with our perception by holding back just enough information to keep the audience guessing on what is real in love and relationships.
One of my favorite films of the year is undoubtedly the psychological/mystery thriller, Perception. Ilana Rein is a genius director and I loved her vision and creativity with this film. I was lucky enough to chat with her about her career, the inspiration behind this film, upcoming projects, and more!
I felt such kinship with Maggie. Maggie has a true artist’s soul. Her pursuit of art comes before everything else in her life. And she’s a badass! She knows what she wants and she goes after it unapologetically. I find that inspirational. She also understands that kind of passion and drive comes with sacrifice. She’s brave.
Actor Wes Ramsey soars in the new psychological thriller "Perception," which was directed by Ilana Rein and released via Gravitas Ventures.
Ilana Rein co-wrote the script with Brian Smith. It tells the story of Daniel, a real estate developer, played by Wes Ramsey, who rises to Senior Vice President. He comes across a psychic Nina (Meera Rohit Kumbhani) who is a true catalyst in this film as she changes everything in his life with a free reading. She channels his deceased wife, Maggie, who is also an artist and connects him with her.
“Intense” describes his experience of seeing the film for the first time. “The first time I watched, I was back in my hometown months after we finished the movie. I was visiting my parents, I was back in my bedroom that I grew up in and I was watching it on my laptop. It’s the first time in my life I ever watched one of my performances alone, it’s the first time that I’ve ever scared myself with my own work before, and it’s the first time that I ever brought myself to tears.
I love everything about this film and it’s definitely one of the new favorite psychological thrillers. It’s also one of the best films in 2019. You can’t beat the suspension, mystery, and sexiness that this film delivers.
Gravitas Ventures has acquired Ilana Rein’s psychological thriller “Perception” for a digital release on Aug. 6.
The film is Rein’s feature directorial debut and stars Wes Ramsey, Meera Rohit Kumbhani, Caitlin Mehner and Max Jenkins. Ramsey plays a successful real estate developer, who must evict a mysterious small-time psychic struggling to provide for her young son only to develop an obsession to reconnect with his dead wife.
It’s only natural for people to form an opinion about psychic phenomena through the way they interpret their reality, based on their individual beliefs. As that faith varies, it’s often common for two people to have a very different understandings of the same event. The struggle between a person’s judgment on what they’ve witnessed, and their ability to understand someone else’s perspective, is explored in the upcoming psychological thriller, ‘Perception.’
Gravitas Ventures, a Red Arrow Studios company, has acquired Ilana Rein’s psychological thriller PERCEPTION for a digital release on August 6. The film is Rein’s feature directorial debut and stars Wes Ramsey (General Hospital, Charmed), Meera Rohit Kumbhani (This Is Us, Dave Made a Maze), Caitlin Mehner (Best of Enemies, Ocean’s 8), and Max Jenkins (High Maintenance, Dead to Me).
